The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, on Thursday, urged the Federal Government to complete the existing federal projects and initiate new ones in the South-Western part of the country.

Oba Sijuwade made the appeal when President Goodluck Jonathan, who came to Osun State in continuation of his presidential campaign tour, paid him a courtesy call in Ile-Ife.
The Ooni explained that the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo administration started two water dam projects which were yet to be completed in Ile-Ife and Ilesa.
He complained that many of the federal roads in the South-West needed the attention of the Federal Government to make life better for the people of the zone.
The royal father further told the visiting president that the late President Umoru Yar’Adua made some unfulfilled promises to the people of the zone.
According to the foremost traditional ruler, President Jonathan was given a chieftaincy title in December last year “because of our belief that you can perform and you are performing.”
The Ooni said that, “Nigeria is lucky to have you as our leader at this time of our social-political history,” adding that, “we will continue to pray for you and Vice-President Namadi Sambo.”
In his short speech, President Jonathan, who was accompanied by his vice, the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Muhammed Bello, thanked the Ooni for the chieftaincy title given to him in December, 2010.
The president told the gathering that, “with that title, I consider myself as part and parcel of this palace.” He promised to rule Nigeria with the spirit of transparency and accountability if elected back to power in the April elections.
The president pledged that his administration would provide good governance, employment for the youth and improve on the economy of Nigeria. Others who were in Ile-Ife with the president were Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State; Senator Iyiola Omisore; Senator Isiaka Adeleke; the South-West vice chairman of PDP, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo; Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun and former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State.
