The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse II, on Tuesday, marked his 31st year anniversary on the throne with a short thanksgiving service in his palace.
Oba Sijuwade ascended the throne of Oduduwa in the ancient city of Ile-Ife on December 6, 1980
In his sermon at the service which took place in Oba Okunade Sijuwade Hall, Pastor J.A.O Awoleke of the Christ Apostolic Church, Opa, Ile-Ife, stressed the importance of thanksgiving.
Describing thanksgiving as “the food of God,” the cleric advised everyone to cultivate the habit of thanking God always.
He commended the Oba for his resolve to give thanks to God for sustaining him since he was crowned as the 50th Ooni of Ife.
Speaking at the service, the former chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Venerable Ayo Banmosun, pointed out that “a lot of things have taken place in the last 31 years since Oba Sijuwade became the Ooni of Ife.”
He further said many people who had never moved close to the traditional ruler had used his name to do one thing or the other.
Venerable Banmosun, afterwards, prayed for forgiveness for Oba Sijuwade, other Obas, Chiefs, the entire people of Ife and Osun State.
Another feature of the low-key event was the award given to the Ooni by an Israel-based non governmental organisation, Save a Child’s Heart.
The Nigerian representative of the NGO, Honourable Akin Joye, stated that Oba Sijuwade was considered for the award because of his contributions to humanity in the last three decades.
Oba Sijuwade, who thanked God for being with him in the last three decades of his reign also expressed gratitude to all and sundry for their prayers and support.
Those who attended the thanksgiving service include the chairman of Ekiti State Council of Obas, Oba Gbadebo Adedeji; Olojudo of Ido-Osun, Oba Adedapo Aderemi; Apetu of Ipetumodu, Oba Adedokun Adegoke; Salu of Edunabon, Oba Omoloye Oyelade, many Obas in Ife land, Chiefs and community leaders.
