It is now clear that Senator Iyiola Omisore has an ambition
to run for governor in the next coming election. This is not news that is
coming from him directly but if you follow the last Peoples Democratic Party
convention in Osun State you will get the picture.
The last convention was tagged by the elders of the part as
a ‘coup’ by Omisore to take over the party at the state level which will give
him the upper hand when running in 2014. According to the insiders, Omisore has
established himself as a force to reckon with in the party in Osun.
For those who followed the convention drama closely, the
goal of the leaders of the party is to have a consensus candidate which many
believed is going to be one Kayode Idowu.
At a meeting held at the house of the former governor of osun, prince Oyinlola,
it was gathered that all the candidates running for the chairmanship of the
party stepped down for idowu through the persuasion of the so called elders
except Ganiyu Olaoluwa, former chairman of olorunda local government who happen
to be the candidate of Iyiola Omisore. At the meeting, Ganiyu Olaoluwa vowed he
will never stepped down for Idowu because what the elders are doing is undemocratic.
At the end of the election in Osogbo, Olaoluwa emerged as the chairman of the
state party by beating his rival, the elders’ choice by 574 votes to 490.
This development makes the camp of Omisore as the champion
of democracy which will give him boost when running in 2014.
Apart from the victory at the convention which makes Omisore
a potential governorship candidate, other political parties have seen him as
treat to them in the upcoming election. Among these parties is the Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which its Lagos chapter called Omisore political
opportunist (the nation online, march 28 2012). It was not a surprise that Lagos
ACN is attacking Omisore, we all know that the present governor of osun state
was a commissioner in Lagos under the administration of bola tinubu, the
godfather of ACN. They see Omisore as a treat to them and the expansion of Lagos
politics to other part of southwest.
Experts believe that with the rate aregbesola is annoying to
many people, his days are numbered and the person that is well prepared to
challenge him in the next election is Iyiola Omisore and that is why he make
sure his guy become the chairman of the party in osun state.
