Omoworare bags NAOS award, urges investment in education

The Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Babajide Omoworare, has called on all tiers of government in the country to invest more in education to promote national development.

Omoworare, who said this while presenting a lecture on Youths and Culture, at a programme organised by the National Association of Osun State Students, noted that investment in education and infrastructure would enhance the rapid development of any nation.

The lawmaker, who presented the lecture shortly after he received the NAOS Award for the most supportive and education-friendly public office holder in the state, argued that education of the youths remained the only bedrock for development and should not be wished away.

“Without education, a society cannot advance, productivity will be low and intellectual workforce will be missing.  And as important as this sector is to nation building, it will be inadequate without the needed and supportive infrastructure that can give it a real meaning. Without well equipped, spacious, well ventilated and serene classroom environment, impacting knowledge will simply amount to a difficult task for the tutor,” he said.

Omoworare, in the lecture, which was part of the 2013 weeklong programme of the NAOS, noted that poor quality education and lack of social facilities were behind the socio-economic and political crises facing the country.

The lawmaker said only education and massive infrastructural development would eliminate the challenges.

He, however, applauded the Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, for investing in education and all-round development in the state.

Omoworare also commended the state government for what he described as an unprecedented all-round development, adding that the current reform of the education policies and programmes would transform the state for better.

Specifically, he commended the government for the building of 50 model elementary schools, 31 middle schools and nine high schools; the distribution of free uniforms to all pupils in the state public schools and provision e-learning tablets.

The NAOS President, Mr. Adebayo Opeyemi, had earlier said that the choice of Omoworare was a product of thorough research and consultations based on his relationships with and contributions to the progress of the association and the students of the state as a whole.
