Osun 2014: Oke gets Ooni’s blessing
The political aspiration of the former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Oluwole Oke, to contest the 2014 governorship seat in Osun State at the weekend received a boost when Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, prayed and endorsed him.
Oke is contesting the governorship seat in the state on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Oke and his entourage had stormed the ancient palace of Ooni at Ile-Ife for the royal blessing and support.
Speaking at the palace, Oke said, “I have come to seek for royal blessing and notification of my ambition to contest the 2014 Governorship election in Osun State.
“I am confirming to your royal majesty, sir, that this is the source of Yorubaland and you are the true representative of Oodua. And that is why it is necessary for me as a true Yoruba born man to receive this royal blessing.”
Oke said, “Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the erstwhile Governor of Osun State was here in 2003 to receive the royal blessings from the palace and his prayers were answered. Therefore, I have come for my own too.”
Oba Sijuwade prayed for him and pledged the support of the royal council.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after, Oke stressed that he has all what it takes to govern the state, saying other aspirants were already intimidated over his ambition.
He advised his co-contenders on the platform of the PDP to stage a retreat.
According to him, “I will expect Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi, Fatai Akinbade who are contestentants for the party’s ticket along with me to be at the background to offer advice. This is because I have all it takes. I competent in terms of administration, I have enough education prerequisite and none of them can come near me. It is time for the elderly to allow the younger people to offer fresh blood into the governance”.
