Relief has finally come to three communities in Ile-Ife, as the Osun State government awarded a N602.3 million road contract for the construction and total rehabilitation of three selected roads in the ancient cities to a construction firm, identified as Messer Hansmag Nigeria Limited.
Signing the agreement on behalf of the state government, the Special Adviser to the governor on Works and Transport, Mr Oladepo Amudah, disclosed that the contractor was ready to finance the project on behalf of the state government with the agreement of 24 months repayment after the completion of the project.
According to him, the affected three roads that would be completed within six months were; Lokore-Okesoda Street (1.85km), Oranfe-Mokuro Road (3.15km) and Omi Okun Road (0.45km).
Mr Amudah stressed that the roads construction would be laid with asphaltic concrete with 40mm, reinforced concrete side drain, reinforced concrete retaining wall, culvert, earthworks and road markings and signs.
He contended that the government was using its meager resources to construct and rehabilitate roads in order to entrench a great legacy, adding that the contractor should follow the laid down specification with regards to good quality job as government of the day would not accept any shoddy job.
Amudah, therefore, appealed to the people of the area to cooperate with the contractor and the government, saying the state would witness rapid infrastructure development that had never happened since the creation of the state.
Responding, on behalf of the company, Mr. Ademola Awofiranye, thanked the governor for counting them worthy, and gave assurance that the project would be completed within the stipulated time and according to specification.
