Omisore accuses Osun gov of instigating violence

Former chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Chief Iyiola Omisore, has accused the Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, of instigating violence in the state, particularly by sponsoring campaign of calumny against the former deputy governor of the state.

Omisore, who is also a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Osun State, warned the governor not to heat up the polity in the state, but he appealed to his supporters not to be moved by the alleged efforts to provoke violence in the state.

Speaking in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Mr Victor Oriola, on Saturday, Omisore said; “his attention had been drawn to another round of violence being perpetrated in Osun State by Governor Rauf Aregbesola and his supporters and had decided to bring this and brigandage being unleashed on the state in the name of politics to the peace-loving people of Osun State for posterity.

“It is ironical that Aregbesola, who was made an ambassador of peace by the Baptist Church at its just-concluded convention in the state, can stoop so low. How low can a government sink just to get at perceived enemy?

“Since yesterday (Friday), we have been inundated with calls about the provocative billboards being erected in the state by one Rotimi Makinde to portray Senator Omisore in a bad light. This is the latest in their series of act of hooliganism and wanton destruction of lives and property unleashed on the state since they assumed office three years ago.”

Senator Omisore, in his appeal to supporters of the PDP in the state to remain unprovoked, noted that the government of the day merely wanted to detract and hoodwink the people of the state since it has no clue on what to celebrate after three years in office.

He appealed to the people prevail on the governor not to rupture the peace being enjoyed in the state, while calling on security agencies to look into the matter so as to bring perpetrators of violence in the state to book.

“Since there is nothing to celebrate by this clueless government that has imposed itself on Osun since three years in power; it has decided to detract the people through series of machinations aimed at hoodwinking the masses.

“While we appeal to our teeming supporters not to be provoked by this senseless act by desperate politicians, we urge the state Commissioner of Police and director of State Security Service (SSS) to get to the root of this matter with a view to bringing the culprits to book.

“We also want to urge the indigenes of the state and lovers of democracy to prevail on Aregbesola and his goons not to turn our state that has enjoyed relative peace into war zone. Winning and losing election should not be a do-or-die affair, but should be based on performance and how well we have treated the confidence reposed in us by the electorate.

“The questions to ask Aregbesola is a follows: Why is the ACN turned APC jittery, if it has been prudent with the revenue accrued to the state and can justify the mortgage and all manner of debts he has put on the state? Why has the governor resorted to heating up the polity now that it is crystal clear that he will lose the governorship election next year?

It is unheard of and reprehensible that a party in power that has professed progressivism as its credo will descend so low in order to deal with perceived and imaginary enemy.
