Senator Iyiola Omisore has advised indigenes of Osun State to resist attempts by unscrupulous politicians to turn the 2014 governorship election into a victory-or-death gladiatorial contest. Omisore gave the advice while reacting to the sudden emergence of provocative billboards erected in parts of the state, with intent to portray him in bad light.
In a statement issued by his media adviser,
Kolawole Oriola Victor, Omisore accused Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and his supporters of engaging in “despicable acts and brigandage” contrary to the nature of Osun people who are peace loving. While appealing to his teeming supporters not to be provoked by “senseless acts by desperate politicians”, Omisore urged the state commissioner of police and director of State Security Service, to conduct thorough investigations and bring the culprits to book.
He also urged the indigenes of the state and lovers of democracy to prevail on Governor Aregbesola and his supporters not to turn the state that has enjoyed relative peace into a war zone. “Winning or losing election should not be a do or die affair but should be based on performance and how well we have treated the confidence reposed in us by the electorate. Since our people are now wiser, no amount of bravado or political gymnastics will work. It will be based purely on one-man, one-vote,” Omisore said.
