Between ACN/Aregbesola and Omisore

ATTITUDE  reveals the indepth of man and that is why what seems obscure comes to the open by a stem of an action. Democracy is expected to be handled by mature minds, those who know what the people need, how best they can have it and when mostly it is needed by them. But this is not always so in many instances.
It is unfortunate that democracy today is no longer what it used to be in terms of worth; so painful that it has lost its values to the hands of the poor players who cannot but always resolve to defamation, destruction and propaganda, when an opponent is seen to be gaining relevance above them. How fast the time has gone that instead of a reasonable execution of manifesto, what is known of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) now is mounting of bill boards that are capable of ruining the peace of the society.
Osun State chapter of the ACN under the leadership of Ogbeni Aregbesola stirred the hornet’s nest recently by picking on Senator Iyiola Omisore, a symbol of PDP in Osun State. Why the sudden attack on Omisore at a time the PDP has not conducted its primary election? Should we then assume that Omisore is ACN’s headache which APC can not cure? Who is afraid of Omisore and why did ACN commence its onsluaght on him so early, contrary to its earlier gossip and moonlight tale of going to bed until election day, should he be picked as PDP governorship candidate?
In their imagination, the assination of late Chief Bola Ige in 2003, weaved around Omisore’s neck to rebrand his person and brainwash the electorate will still gel. This strategy adopted when Omisore was picked as PDP candidate in 2003 according to their spin doctor, has not expired and will still cure their headache in 2014.
As back-up, stones moulded in provocative and libellous colour would be thrown towards Omisore’s roof so as to draw him out for a fight as proof that he is unrully, uncivilised, violent and a killer. In his candour, rather than take up their invitation for lawlessness, PDP, as a party, and Omisore as a person shall toe the straight line of the law and ensure peace, even when slapped on both cheeks. It is a prize that is not too much to pay in a democratic revolution.
As a test-run of the tactics, incriminating sobriquet and billboards using Omisore’s image with effontry, surrounded by a gun, cutlass, axe and a military cap now dot every nook and cranny of the state. Even though I noticed the hand of Esau  as the sponsor, the voice is that of Jacob as apparent in the signature on the boards “Mayegun”.
“Mayegun”, no doubt is a title but also a person. Revealing his real name will be an assistance to his intention of climbing up a popularity ladder, using Omisore’s name and PDP as steps to fame. He is not unknown, we know him quite well.
Perhaps I need to say this, every seat of power has a designation and a duty attached to it. A lawmaker breaking the law is not a legislator but a parambulator.
Mayegun, who is acting the opposite of his title, is obviously carrying a comedy too far, thereby misapplying his profession as a jester to a serious political issue affecting negatively the people of Osun State. He is believed to be well familiar with law and libel, what it entails and the implication of flouting one but he who the “gods” want to destroy, they first make mad.
While we await the law enforcement agents to look into it, we want to equally say that there is a limit to human endurance, hence, summoning the appropriate quarters and authorities to caution Maiyegun while we continue to calm our our teeming supporters to cool temper.
It is so sad because he (Mayegun) does not seem to know the implication of what he has got himself into and appears not to have learnt any lesson from the history of the past .
Rather than joining issues with him and his sponsor, Omisore, his supporters and PDP as a responsible opposition and the entire people of Osun State have ignored the offensive billboard. The fact that we ignored and did not challenge them should tell them something; “Tijakadi ko” (to use their own language) it is not by combat, we shall reclaim the lost glory of Osun State with votes and support of the people who are daily praying for liberation in the hands of pretenders masquerading as Awolowo’s disciples.
In Yorubaland, when you are ignored, it is either that you are presumed to be a mad dog that barks for no significant purpose other than “notice me” or that people just want to apply the golden rule that silence is the right answer for now until 2014. Then, their voices will be in their votes.
He is too undersized to raise a finger against all men and women of honour “Eniyan Iyis” in lIe-lfe. It is risky to be tagged Judas Iscariot on Ife agenda; it is dangerous when people label a man as a clog in the wheel of progress of a town, just as it is a curse to defy the all- important culture of respect.
•Prince Odeyemi is the Osun State PDP Director of Media and Strategy.
