THE burial of the late Princess Tejumade Alakija, who died on Friday, August 23, will be held on Friday, November 8, at Ile-Ife, Osun State.
In a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune by the families of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Adesoji Aderemi and the Chief Lowa Omisore of Ile-Ife, the burial rites will commence on Wednesday, November 6, with a service of songs in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the statement, commendation service for the deceased will be held on Thursday, November 7, in Ibadan, while on the same day, Christian wake will be held at Ile-Ife.
Princess Alakija, while alive, served meritoriously in the civil service of the old Western Region, which culminated in her appointment as the first female Head of Service in Nigeria.
Thereafter, she resigned voluntarily and was subsequently appointed as the Pro-chancellor at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and University of Abuja respectively.
She was later appointed chairman, Committee of Pro-Chancellors of federal universities in Nigeria; chairman, National Library Board and chairperson, Committee on Public Service of the National Political Reform Conference.
As a recognition of her service, she was awarded a honorary doctorate degree by the University of Lagos and was also awarded Member of the Federal Republic (MFR).
