Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on Tuesday, were full of joy when they confirmed that the over five moths strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities has been suspended.
The students, who had been on campus since the school management ordered resumption were seen jumping around the campus congratulating one another.
Our correspondent observed that students rushed out of their hostel shouting “the strike has been suspended”.
However, no lecture was held in the university despite the suspension of the strike. Though, they expressed fear that lectures may no longer hold this year, the students said suspending the strike was an assurance that academics has resumed in the school.
One of them, identified as Victoria said suspending the strike was a challenge for her to buckle up her reading speed. “I am extremely happy with the development. Though, we have missed so much, this is a call for me to speed up my reading technique so that I
can cover up what has been missed,” she said.
