Bukola had filed for divorce against her husband on March 26, accusing him of desertion, violent behaviour, provocation, lack of care and constant battering.
She told the court that, “the love is no more there; my husband is violent in nature and fond of beating me’’.
“We got married in February 2004 and blessed with three children aged between seven and two years.
“Please separate us; after all, we have been living separately since 2011, and grant me the custody of the children.’’
In his defence, Babatunde said his wife did not always make him happy and refused to support his calling as a clergy.
“In 2007, I decided to pack out of the house because of her bad character, and went to live in a separate place.
“In 2012, I decided to commit suicide because I became a totally sad man, and all this was due to her bad character. It was God that sent a man who rescued me.
“I tried all I could to satisfy her, but being not a contented person, she did not appreciate me.
“Please separate us and let her go for the security of my life,’’ Babatunde told the court.
The Court President, Mr Abioye Olatunbosun, in his judgement, dissolved the marriage and ordered non refund of dowry.
Olatunbosun ruled: “All effort to reconcile the couple had proved abortive, and therefore, the marriage is hereby dissolved with no refund of dowry.’’
“The three children should be in the custody of the woman and the husband should be paying N10,000 monthly for food allowance for the children.”
He also directed that the Babatunde be responsible for payment of the children’s school fees, books, hospital bills and other upkeeps.
