When Ile-Ife, the cradle of the Yoruba race, hosted the
first International Council for Obatala Religion Conference, traditional
religion worshipers under the auspices of 'Oloosa Parapo' added colour to the
occasion by bringing to life reminiscences of the foremost deity.
The traditional worshippers believe deities like Obatala are
divine messengers of Olodumare, the Supreme Being.
The worshippers also agree with the teaching of Ifa (Oracle)
that Obatala was empowered by Olodumare with the aid of other celestial
surgeons like Alakedun Ajala, head-mould specialists and Ogun, the god of iron
to mould human beings at inception.
Therefore, when they assembled at Yemoo Groove Hall, Mooore,
Ile-Ife, on Thursday, January 15, it was a moment to celebrate those that
identified with the gods.
One of those singled out for honour was Sat Guru Maharaj Ji,
the Spiritual Leader of Divine Light Mission otherwise known as One Love
Family.
He was honoured as 'Omoloju' (favourite of) Obatala.
His presence at the occasion provoked a lot of thoughts as a
man who professes a different brand of faith yet to be clearly understood by
many.
The honour added to series of awards he had received from
many traditional groups such Agbekoya, Ogboni Saala and Ile-Asa Yoruba to
mention few.
His message that the true name of God is Maharaj Ji still
raises dust at different fora but he insists that that that was the original
name of the Almighty as contained in Sanskrit, the first language spoken by man
on earth.
Then, what qualified Guru who was not an Obatala worshipper
for the hounour? Obalesun Orisakoakomi Obatala Agbaye, Oba Ayodele Abiodun, the
Spiritual Leader of Obatala worshippers worldwide, said: "We have found
out through our research and consultation with Obatala that Guru Maharaj Ji is
one of the most truthful beings on earth. As the Living Perfect Master of this
era, he is a descendant of the deities. Therefore, we are proud to confer on
him Omoluju Obatala.
"Initially, we had wanted to give him another award but
when we noted his total devotion towards the deities, we came to the conclusion
that there is no other person to be so honoured as Omoloju Obatala excerpt Sat
Guru Maharaj Ji.
"His door was always opened whenever we had cause to
meet him. He is an epitome of honesty. We want other Nigerians to emulate him.
"We appreciate his commitment to Yoruba culture. People
like this deserve respects from the society. I have been to his kingdom. I
found out that he is an honest person that wishes everyone success in all
endeavours. He is one of us. You can see that he wears white cloth like us to
show that he is clean. Nothing negative concerning him was revealed to us by
Obatala. Therefore, we consider it a great honour to be associated with him."
Dr. Olawole Idowu Morgan, the guest speaker at the event,
said: "Guru preaches love. I have received divine knowledge through him. I
am not surprised that Obatala worshippers decided to honour him because he
cherishes tradition a lot.
"My main grouse against the white people was that they
desecrated our land by polluting the minds of our people that deities who were
messengers of the almighty were evil. They never saw anything good in our
culture whereas they were not truthful.
"People like Sat Guru made us to understand the need to
hold in high esteem the integrity of our deities. He is a cultural man to the
core because he practices traditional religion, unlike those deceiving
themselves with alien beliefs through their books. He will never condemn traditional
worshippers; rather he encourages them to appreciate the gods.
"Sometimes, I wonder where some evil minded persons get
their evil stories against him. He is a pure vegetarian that doesn't eat meat
or any life animal; so how come would such a man be associated with murder or
ritual?
"My advice to fellow Nigerians is that they should stop
dressing themselves in borrowed rope and go back to traditional religion. That
is the faith God gave us in this part of the world.
"Oyinbo people cheated us by carting away all these
powers to develop their own land and things are working for them. They used
Christianity and Islam to blackmail us during the colonial era to submit to
them. I was a Christian but when I saw the light in traditional religion, I
returned to Obatala."
An elated Guru shared his feelings, saying: "It is good
that Nigerians and other Africans are beginning to realise who they are. There
is nothing fetish about our culture. The white people had inferiority complex.
That was why they worked against the deities but now that the Living Perfect
Master is around, many things will come up again.
"People should know that Maharaj Ji power is present in
everywhere. You are asking me how I was coping with several deities. There is
no discrimination in divinity. Anyone with pure heart is always welcomed. My
kingdom which is the highest spiritual centre in the world is open to everyone
provided you are not evil. Call me anywhere and I will answer you.
"Deities were masters that came before me. Obatala is a
great deity in Yoruba land that enthroned justice. Whoever wants to be
associated with him must be pure. You cannot lie to the deities otherwise you
will be joking with your life. Above all, Maharaj Ji is the true name of God
which all human beings must know and call.
"I have told people severally that I am the one hired
by the Almighty as the torch bearer of this era. You will remain in perpetual
darkness if you don't receive divine knowledge. That is the only key towards
salvation of your soul. Our economy would have advance beyond this if our
leaders were in divine knowledge and were ready to show true love to the
people.
"With this recognition, Obatala worshippers have
further saved the world from destruction. From now, the spirit of Obatala is
further renewed to bless all mankind. I want Nigerians to be steadfast and
remain calm; Boko Haram will soon find their level.
"Abundant blessing will continue to abound in the
nation. I sincerely appreciate this honour. I am now further eneregised to go
the full hug to take the message of Maharaj Ji across the country concerning
the deities. Our people should seek help where there is help and stop deceiving
themselves that there is God up somewhere that controls their destiny.
"I am here now; people can touch, feel and tap me for
good. The spirit of God called Maharaj Ji is everywhere. It is evident in all
living things. Maharaj Ji is not far from anyone. Don't let anyone deceive you
that there is God is any literature book. That one is a dead God. Serve Maharaj
Ji who is alive. He is the God of the living."
