Patient survives, nurse dies after surgical operation


Nurses, doctors and other health workers of Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Ile-Ife on Sunday over the alleged mysterious death of one of their colleagues after a surgical operation.



 The victim, who is identified as  Tambaya John Amu, is an ‎anaesthetical nurse.

 It was learnt that ‎a team of five medical staff including a foreign doctor conducted the surgery and the patient survived.


‎It was gathered that the death of the nurse was unconnected with spiritual matters.

 A worker of the hospital, told Daily Times that the family of patient had warned the doctor not to proceed with the operation.

 The worker said, "The family of the patient warned that they should not do the operation bur the nurse went ahead because the patient asked to carry on. He later died."

 Another worker explained that ‎after the operation, the team went for a meal and after a while developed strange sicknesses.

 "After the operation they went to eat, and we suddenly heard that all of them that performed the operation are critically ill. They were stooling and vomiting. That of Amu was a bit serious.

 "We noticed that and quickly rushed him to the intensive care unit of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital when SDA hospital could no longer handle case,he died at the OAUTHC."

 When our correspondent visited the hospital, staff were confused and scared of the cause of the disease.

 Workers were also seen evacuating the  ICU wars to disinfect it.‎

‎It was learnt that the ‎remaining four health workers are still critically ill.
