Afolabi Charges Ile- Ife Politicians Over Youths Development

An high court judge, Justice Yinka Afolabi has charged politicians in Ile-ife, Osun state to come together and,”raise the Ife youths above the poverty level they are presently battling” so that they can be useful to the society.

Justice Afolabi made the call at the 2016 Colloquium of the Ife Zenith‎ Club titled,”Ife youth-Catalyst for change.”

“If I may ask, which of our politicians since Chief M.A Omisade and Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode’s demise has ever featured prominently in national politics? What about yoruba politics?how many of them are in decision making level of Afenifere,Yoruba council of elders et al?none.

“Ife politicians, this is the time for you to think. Are you‎ building the youths to succeed you or destroying their future?how many of your own children have ever fallen victims of political molestation?Think! For the holy book say, what we sow, we will reap. It may not be now,it may be in the future. It may be in the time of our unborn generation.Think and fashion out ways to assist our youths to be useful to our society,” he stated.

The jurist also tasked the youths in ile-ife to change their current disposition to politics ‎which have kept them below poverty level over the years.

According to him,”this is the time for serious rethinking by our youths. They should ask these politicians what will accrue to them not in monetary terms,if they vote these politicians to power. They should stop taking money, drinking dry gin, smoking weeds and hailing unproductive politicians”.

“Our youths should stop lending themselves as instruments of terror before, during and after election. They were born the same way these politicians were born.”

Justice Afolabi who recalled that Ile-ife has been an important centre of trade and culture in West Africa  for more than eight hundred years expressed the need for the present Ife youths to contribute their own quota to the development of the community.

He also said that,”apart from academic exercise, ‎our youths must learn one or two other vocations that they will fall back upon in case there is no government job in view of the present economic situation that our nation is facing presently.”

Justice Afolabi also said that,”in order to engender the necessary pride and belief in our youths, there is the need for them to know about ife”, stressing that,”our fathers befor‎e us were great people, they commanded respect from all manner of people, hence allmost town and hamlets in yoruba laand and in diaspora trace their origin back to ile-ife”.

He appealed to the federal government to as a matter of urgency reinstate teaching of history in schools as a compulsory subject.
