An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Friday remanded one Emeka Akonobi, 38, in prison custody over alleged attempted rape of a 10-year-old girl. Akonobi is standing trial on a count charge of attempted rape to which he pleaded not guilty. Counsel to the accused, Mr Ben Adirieje, applied for the bail of his client in the most liberal term,
promising that he would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.
The Magistrate, Olalekan Ijiyode, refused to grant the accused bail but asked his counsel to come with formal application. Ijiyode ordered that the accused be remanded in prison, pending the consideration of the bail application and adjourned the case until June 15, for hearing
The Prosecutor, Mr Bassey Asuquo, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 9 around 2:00 pm in Ondo Road, Ile-Ife
